Quick answer: The best holiday gifts for referring doctors thank the whole office, not just the physician. Send one shareable treats box for the staff and, for your closest referral partners, a personal gift for the doctor. Most practices spend $50–$100 per referring office. Never send cash or gift cards, never tie the gift to how many patients they referred, and check your compliance rules first.
Specialists, including endodontists, orthodontists, oral surgeons, cardiologists and physical therapists, depend on referring offices for new patients. A holiday gift is one of the few chances each year to say thank you without asking for anything. Done well, it keeps your practice top of mind with the people who actually make the referral call.
Thank the whole office, not just the doctor
In many practices, the front desk, schedulers and office managers decide where a patient goes once the doctor says "see a specialist." A box the whole team can open in the break room reaches every one of them. That is why shareable treat boxes are the most popular referring-office gift we make.
A simple two-tier approach works well:
- Every referring office: one shareable treats box for the team ($80–$200).
- Your top referral partners: the office box plus a personal gift for the doctor ($165–$300).

The 2026 rules to check first
Gifts to referral sources in healthcare are regulated. These are the points most compliance teams look at:
- No cash or gift cards. Cash equivalents are generally not allowed as gifts to referring physicians.
- Not tied to referrals. The gift should be the same regardless of how many patients an office sent. Never say or imply "thanks for the 30 referrals."
- The Stark Law annual limit. Entities that furnish designated health services, such as hospitals, physician groups and labs, may give referring physicians non-monetary gifts up to $535 per physician for calendar year 2026, in total across the year (source). The gift must not be requested by the physician.
- Anti-Kickback rules. If your practice bills Medicare or Medicaid, the federal Anti-Kickback Statute also applies, and many practices keep gifts modest and occasional for that reason.
- Dental practices. Check your state dental board rules and any guidance from your professional association.

When to send
Aim for delivery in the first two weeks of December, before offices close for the holidays and before the flood of December deliveries. For a branded program, order by early November.
Frequently asked questions
What do you give referring doctors for Christmas?
A shareable treats box for the whole office, plus a personal gift such as a wellness or coffee box for the doctors who refer most often. Add a handwritten note thanking them for their partnership in patient care.
How much should a specialist spend on gifts for referring offices?
Most practices spend $50–$100 per referring office. Keep the value the same for every office at the same tier, and check your compliance rules.
Can we send gift cards to referring doctors?
Generally no. Cash and cash equivalents such as gift cards are not permitted as non-monetary gifts to referring physicians.
Should we put our practice logo on the gift?
A small logo card or box sticker is fine. Keep the gift itself about the recipients, not your marketing.
Can you ship to many offices at once?
Yes. Send us a spreadsheet of offices and we ship each box with tracking, nationwide, with a handwritten card in every box.
